Background

Founded in 2006, The Guilford Institute has been delivering value to its clients through contract and collaborative research & development services.  The institute was founded with an initial mission of solving client problems in the Biomedical domain by applying novel computing paradigms to create solutions for high-value scientific and technical problems.  

Over time, the institute has broadened its mission to include delivering solutions to high-value problems through focused analysis and R&D in response to demand from select global business enterprises, as well as governmental agencies, in a number of industries over a range of problem domains.

Projects

The research staff at The Guilford Institute have worked on high-value problems for diverse clients, including governmental organizations such as US Army; National Security Agency; US Department of Defense; California Department of Transportation; City of Winston Salem, NC; and, Dalian Provincial Government Office, Dalian, China.  Staff have worked on problems for business enterprises as diverse as Ricoh Co, Ltd.; EasyHRweb LLC; Fiserv Corporation; and Glodia KK. Researchers at The Guilford Institute have ongoing collaborations with enterprises in the Transportation, Banking, and Insurance sectors in addition to its ongoing core project work in the Biomedical field.  The institute has collaborative projects with the University of South Carolina, Columbia, and University of California, Santa Barbara.

Business Model

The Guilford Institute conducts its business primarily through generating responses to RFPs put forth by both business and governmental entities.

Staff at The Guilford Institute manage their projects from conception through delivery using a broad number of "best practice" processes and methods. Staff at the institute also use formal methods and measurements, and practice Agile and Lean approaches to project management and delivery.

The Guilford Institute has started to work directly with select business enterprises on a contract basis, specifically in the areas of Information Technology (IT) analysis, management and implementation across a range of domains, in addition to its primary focus in the Biomedical field.
